  1. I'd buy one from Matt Moore, of Rincon Designs in Carpinteria. He's been shaping for decades and has a few on his site. You can customize any of the boards on the site or just buy it off the rack. His is not a big "factory." All boards are hand made in the back of his little shop on Linden Ave.

The problem always comes down to shipping. If you buy a board over seven feet or so, it's tough to get it to the buyer.

    Check out his site: http://www.rincondesigns.net/products/su...

  2. not really, i think you have to see, touch & feel if its the right board for you. not easy to know anything by looking at a picture. will it get to you in perfect condition ?

  3. As long as there is a wide slection at your local surf shop,  I would start there. If not, I would not have a problem buying online when you find something you like. I bought a surfboard online and the packaging was very good. It arrived 100% intact and I was very satisfied.

  4. I'd buy a bodyboard online, and maybe even a foam Softop surfboard online, but not a standard fiberglass one. They're too fragile to be shipped safely (unless the seller took lots of precautions, which would probably cost $$$).

Go your local surf shop. If price is the reason you want to buy online, maybe think about a used board in good condition.
