My girlfriend and I are about to have a baby. She was terminated by her employer during the 1st month of the pregnancy. We picked up COBRA and have been paying that every month. Now with the baby due any day COBRA dropped her saying she didn't make payment. She paid on the same day every month, with the same checking account. They payment she noticed was pending for 11 days and was terminated. Without a phone call they dropped her. They said they sent a letter out when she was terminated but it's been 5 days and we have not received anything. Apparently she mistyped the Checking Account Number and they took that as a failure to pay, even though they show on their records an effort was made. Long story short she has no Insurance and they baby could be here any minute? We've paid about 3,000 dollars twards the insurance. What are our options??

  1. Unfortunately, they do not have to re-instate her. But a written papertrail is the way to go. Send a letter explaining the situation (about the mistyped account number) and see if anything can be done. Include in your letter your excellent payment history and dilligence in making sure the payments were sent timely. My argument to them would also include that a timely notification (either by e-mail or snail mail) of the problem with the payment would have easily eliminated this occurance.

In the meantime, unless you can get this resolved, you may have to pay cash for the delivery. Contact the hospital and be prepared to pay their cash rate. Or if you think you are eligible, apply for medicaid in your state.

If you are successful in getting the insurance straightened out, you can have the insurance billed and your money refunded.

  2. how frustrating! well, until you figure out what to do you all may want to invest in the linx2health medical saving benefit card.  it will help u to save up to 50% off in some cases for any type of doctor's visit (medical, dental, vision, etc...) and it's not ridiculously priced either. check under products to find out more info in your state. Hope this helps and congrats on the baby!
