  1. I'm surprised to hear that it was so painful for you.  I had one done about a month ago.  I was not sedated at all and I barely even felt it.  I had to have a biopsy done during the colposcopy and I just felt a little pinch during that part.  The part where the doc washes your cervix off with the solution stings a little, but other than that I didn't feel anything.  I consider myself to have a pretty low pain tolerance too.  Sedation is definitely not needed in most cases.  Unless your doctor is not very experienced in doing this procedure, if definitely should not have been this painful.

  2. maybe u should switch gynos....i had one done in july and i didnt feel a thing and i was completely awake and they didnt spray anything on my cervix to numb me...ive had paps that were more uncomfortable...b4 u go take 3 aleve or advil....i also drank them down with a beer cause i was nervous...lol

  3. I wasn't sedated for mine.  They administer a local anesthetic to the cervix, but that's all.  It's an uncomfortable, cramping/pulling sensation, but it does hurt worse from person to person.  The biopsy part definitely hurt the worst, but if you focus on something else and control your breathing (pant like a puppy), it's tolerable and over with very quickly.

The information gathered make it a worthwhile test to endure, IMO.

    Good luck.

  4. I have had it done twice in the past year.  I have NEVER been sedated for either.  Maybe it depends on the gyno..  It is a very uncomfortable feeling, but its better to have it done and over with so your doc can make sure you are healthy and dont have to have a more serious procedure done.

  5. i wasnt sedated and it hurt a lot i took advil  and i bled for a week with clomps

  6. I was not sedated and I did not feel anything. I did not take any medicine or anything before I went. The nurses and doctors were really easy and gentle. I don't know why I did not hurt.I guess it all depends on who is doing it.

  7. I had two and wasn't sedated or medicated for either of mine.

The part you are referring to that is painful is the biopsy portion of the procedure.  A colposcopy is just the act of the gyno examining your cervix under magnification.

I have never heard of people being sedated for this procedure, that sounds extreme to me considering how quickly it is over.

  8. OMG honey.  You are supposed to be sedated!  I have had one and I didn't know a thing.

See another doctor, obviously this one doesn't know what he is doing.  If he knew it was hurting he should have stopped and sedated you.  The procedure only takes 15-20mins.
