I just got Charter digital cable, and since there has been a buzzing with the volume. The volume that is being used is the TVs volume and the cable box volume is being unused. How do I switch over to use the cable volume instead of the TV volume?

I've looked all over the menu and cant figure out what to do.

  1. You should only need to turn down the sound on the TV and turn up the sound on your cable box.

It should have a button on the remote.

It should be that simple , if they have connected it up right for you in the first place.

  2. The cable box usually does NOT control the volume.  There is not enough power in a cable box to drive speakers.

The CATV coax is often the source of 60 hz hum.  The long runs of coax on poles outside your home act as an antenna and picks up 60 hz noise from the AC power wires.

Call your cable company and have a tech come out and ground the coax outside your house.  (They often skip this step unless it is needed.)

There could also be an amplifier used by the cable company that is going bad on a pole near your home. Once again - a service call is needed.
