Question:

Caffeine calms me down. Why?

If I drink at least half a can of soda or so, I get a weird calming feeling. Never had a caffeine buzz in my life. Most people find this hard to believe, but I can't even imagine getting a 'buzz'. Also, it doesn't neccessrily make me tired either. I can almost feel, like, a pressure on my brain or something. =P It just tones me down, and relaxes me. I'm usually a hyper person. Anybody know why this would happen?

  1. It's your body chemistry. No 2 people are the same. My high school science teacher told us an aspirin would keep him awake all night, so it's no surprise. You are lucky that caffeine doesn't wind you up. I hate that feeling.

  2. Your body has acclimated itself to caffeine, which can cause short bursts of energy or, as you say, have a calming effect upon you.

If you wish to see how addicted you are to caffeine simply go several days without the substance and see how your body will react. For many people it's not a pretty sight while others can easily stop the consumption and move on with their lives.

  3. not uncommon, you may be bipolar. i would see a psychiatrist.  i'm not trying to be smart either. i had a buddy like that who would get hyper when he drank.

  4. Caffeine works the opposite in little kids too....  My pediatrician had me give my daughter about 1/4 c. coffee each morning, because she was borderline hyperactive, and he didn't want to put her on ritalin .....  of course, this was 30 yrs ago!
