Question:

Cake Recipes?

I'm looking for a cake for my dad since his birthday is in 10 days. I want it to be the best cake he's tasted because this is a big birthday :).

He loves chocolate so it has to be chocolate cake. He like the smooth texture like a brownie. It has to be rich, and also it has to actually taste like chocolate, not sugar. Probably dark chocolate would be best.

If you guys have any recipes that look good or that you know that are really good then please share!

Thanks!!

  1. There is an AWESOME brownie recipe.  I am a chocoholic and this is the "cake" I made for MY birthday

                               Awesome (addictive) Brownies

    1 pound unsalted butter

1 pound plus 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips, divided

    6 ounces unsweetened chocolate

    6 extra large eggs

3 Tablespoons instant coffee powder (I have omitted this)

    2 Tablespoons vanilla extract

    2 1/4 Cups sugar

    1 1/4 Cups flour, divided

    1 Tablespoon baking powder

    1 teaspoon kosher salt

    3 Cup diced walnut pieces

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.  Grease and flour a 13X18X1 1/2 inch sheet pan.

Combine the 2 cups of chocolate chips and the walnut pieces in a bowl add the 1/4 cup of flour toss together and set aside.

Melt the butter the 1 pound chocolate chips and the unsweetened chocolate on top of a double boiler.  Cool slightly.  Stir together the eggs, instant coffee, vanill and sugar.  Stir in the warm chocolate mixture and cool to room temperature.

Stir together the flour and baking powder and salt.  Add to the cooled chocolate mixture.  Stir in the reserved chips, and nut pieces.  Pour into prepared pan.

Bake for about 30 minutes, or until tester comes out clean.  Halfway through the baking, rap the pan against the oven shelf to allow air to escape from between the pan and the brownie dough.  DO NOT OVER BAKE!!!!

Cool thoroughly, refrigerate well and cut into squares

  4. I can guarentee this one works! (my 9 year old cousin can do it by herself)

10oz  self raising flour, mixed with 2oz cocoa powder (Cadburys bourneville powder is best)

    12oz butter

    12oz caster sugar

6 eggs (beaten in a mug)

    Pre-heat oven

Using an electric mixer cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

Slowly (And I mean slowly) add the eggs, still whisking (if the mix starts to go lumpy or curdle, add a pinch of flour until it bceomes smooth again)

Sieve the flour/cocoa powder mix and fold into the cake mix, using a spatula take the mixure round the bowl and cut through the middle until all the flour has been folded in.

Butter or grease two baking tins and add equal amounts of mix to both tins.

Place in oven and bake. You will know it is cooked if you place a skewer through the middle and no cake mix sticks to it.

    Leave to cool.

Once cool to the touch it is ready to ice.

You can use two methods of icing:

Betty Crockers ready to ice chocolate mix

or make your own chocolate buttercream:

Mix butter and icing suger until creamy. Add more cocoa powder to taste.

Use the paste to ice one side of the two cake halves, place the other on top and pipe spirals around the top. Add decorations (white malteasers look fab)

    Hope that  helps.
