How do I calculate the volume in cubic meters of a cylinder that is 10 ft high and 3 ft in radius?

Formula: (Pi)(r^2)(h)

Since the answer difers in two cases, do you convert ft to meters first, or use the formula and convert the answer then to cubic meters?

  1. If you do it right, the answer will be the same either way.  For you it will probably be easier to convert the dimensions to meters first, then plug them into the equation.  There are 3.28 feet in a meter.

    However, you can do the equation first, then change cubic feet into cubic meters.  There are 35.31 cubic feet in a cubic meter (3.28³).

    radius=0.9144 m

    high= 3.048 m

    volume=(Pi)(r^2)(h) =8.006 m^3

    2.1 ft = 0.3048 meters

    radius=3 ft

    high=10 ft

    volume=(Pi)(r^2)(h)= 282.743 [ft^3] =

    = 282.743 [ft^3]* (0.3048)^3 [m^3/ft^3]= 282.743* 0.00283=8.006 m^3
