In California, parents who home school must have a teaching credential!!! It is the only state that has this restriction, and I live in California!! My mom wants to home school me, but doesn't have a teaching credential. Any advice?? Are there any other California (or, more specifically, San Diego) home schoolers??

  1. I'm in Cali, my mom homeschools my sister without a teaching credential.  Your mom can legally teach you without any credentials.  Check out the laws on hslda.org.  Hope it works out!

  2. Take a look at Penn Foster, you don't need a parent with teaching credential and its legal in CA

  3. That's not true. The law says that the parent must be capable of teaching. Capable has never been defined by the courts as having a teaching credential.

    Read the law at www.hslda.org

  4. Thank goodness that California shows good sense.

  5. contact the homeschool legal defense association in your area. the web site is http://www.hslda.org/Default.asp?bhcp=1

    good luck!!!

  6. If you go through a charter school, your mother does not need a teaching credential.
