  1. Well, it depends on the kind of surgeon you wish to be.

My husband is a general/trauma surgeon, he was in school for 13 yrs.

    College: 4 yrs.

    Med School: 4 yrs.

    Surgical Residency: 5 yrs.

    --------------------------------------...

The residencies depend on the kind of surgeon you plan to be also.

General Surgeon:  5 - 7 yrs. (if you want to spend a yr. or 2 in research)

    Neurosurgeon: 6 yrs.

    Heart Surgeon:  7 - 9 yrs.

    etc. etc.

Remember, the above are only for the surgical residencies, they do not include college & med school.

As for what to do now until college, meet with your school counselor.  They should be able to point you in the right direction as to what classes you will need to take to prepare for college as a pre. med student.  They can also help you with finding the right colleges & med. schools for you to apply to.

I wish you the very best of luck!
