Camera zoom?

The camera i have right now stops recording sound when you zoom in/zoom out, and it drives me crazy. I'm looking to buy a new camera, right now I've got two options: Sony Cyber-Shot and Casio EXILIM. Do those cameras do that? Also, do they run on batteries or do they have a charger?

  1. Both the Sony and Casio run on proprietary batteries and come with a charger.

The Sony allows you to record with the full use of zoom.

The Casio does not allow you to zoom during recording; zoom must be preset.

Most cameras do not allow zooming during video recording because the noise of the lens moving is easily picked up by the microphone. This is especially true for cameras with a telescopic lens that extend from and collapse into the body.

The benefit of the Casio is the ability to record at a higher resolution. Also, if you plan on uploading to YouTube the camera does half the work for you.
