Question:

Can Hermit Crabs Jump?

I found one of my hermit crabs outside of its 5 gallon glass tank this morning. How is that possible? There is a coconut tiki hut in the tank but it doesn't come close to the sides. Any explanations?

  1. I have never seen one do what you would normally call jump.

However, I have seen them get a good start and leap sideways a good bit.  I have also seen them stretch further than I thought possible to be able to climb out.

If your tiki hut is tall enough they could get to the side and get out.  It may look cool but you never want anything taller than the sides of the tank.

    Good luck!

  2. If there is anything else in the tank it might of climbed that and eventually got to the top but i am pretty sure hermit crabs cant jump
