Question:

Can I be reactivated

I was chaptered out of the army for overweight 6 years ago. I tried to stay in but couldn't make weight. Now, 6 years and 200lbs later a recruiter is telling me he is going to put me on orders. If I could have lost the 20 lbs back then I would have stayed in. I don't have any problem serving but not now that I have put on so much weight I can't loose it and I would look ridiculous in uniform. What can I do? I mean they already kicked me out and that was bad enough.

  1. The big question is - how long has it been since you first enlisted.  If it is less than 8 years the Army still owns you.  If more than 8 years you are a free man.

I'm suspicious about the recruiter saying he is going to put you on orders.  I've never heard of such a thing.  He might be using it as a scare tactic to get you to enlist voluntarilly. If that is the case you should tell his supervisor.

Bottom line - The Army needs bodies and you have a body.  On theother hand if you are 200 pounds overweight I'm confident they don't want you.

  2. Once you were chaptered and handed your DD-214, that ended your commitment to the military. End of story. The recruiter is blowing smoke.

  3. A recruiter cannot put you on orders like that; the message comes from the Dept of the Army

  4. Until you see orders I wouldn't worry it overmuch

I don't honestly see how they can do this

I don't think a recruiter has any authority to put anyone on orders

sounds like he's messing with you

  5. Are you really, really going to listen to some random recruiter? since when do they fall into your chain of command or NCO support channel? You need to stay out if you fall for this...
