Can I wash my sofa covers?

Question

I have a chair and sofa that have removable covers that are light yellow. They are getting grubby, I would like to wash them, does anybody have advice?

They feel like cotton weave, I have checked through the covers, and there are no tags.

If I wash them and they shrink, I'm stuffed!

I'd risk it!  as long as you do a very cool wash with a minimum of a colour suitable washing liquid (to make sure absolutely no more colour bleeds than absolutely necessary) and do not tumble dry them. Whilst they are drying try pulling them into shape.  Isn't there an arm cover, or other accessory that you could maybe test first before washing the cover?  I did this with my covers, and I must say that the fabric 'tightened up' a bit after washing which made is a bit of a struggle to get the covers back on, but it settled down after a day or two and a few bums on the seats!!  Good luck!

You can probably wash them, use a cool setting and don't tumble dry them to be safest.

I washed my seat covers and they were a kind of brushed cotton.  They came out fine, just make sure you do them on a 30 or something it should be enough to get most of the dirt out.

Strange there are no tags. They are a statutory requirement, unless they are very old. If there are no tags, then I'd be cautious and take them to the dry cleaners, although they may refuse to do them because without drycleaning category info, they can't be sure which chemicals to use.

Put them on a delicate wash.

That is usually a cold wash and they shouldn't shrink.

gentle wash.  Put the covers back on the sofa when they are still a little damp - that way, they won't shrink.

You can wash them in cold/cold normal cycle. You don't want to go to low as you might damage the washing machine spinner. Only wash those items by themselves don't mix wash them.

1. pour your favorite tide, cheer, fab, Ultra bla, bla into the tub

2. set the k**b, button, dial to normal cycle

3. set the temp to cold/cold (wash/rinse)

4. set the water level to high

5. set the extra rinse to on

6. turn on the wash so the water can fill 1/4 of the way

7. take each cover and slowly put it into the washing machine

8. repeat step 7 if you have more than one but don't exceed 4 covers

9. Close the cover and wait for the wash to finish

Now if you have a dryer place these items in there but use medium to low dryer cycle mode. If you have dampness auto sensor on the dryer that really helps, but if you don't just follow the direction. Throw in 2 fabric softener sheets into the dryer. Make sure the lint tray is clear for lint.
