from start (eg mining) to finish (consumer product). which is more environmentally friendly to produce, a standard bean can or a 500ml plastic bottle. THIS IS NOT RELATION TO THE PRODUCT HELD BY THE CAN OR BOTTLE, JUST ABOUT THE PRODUCTION OF THE CAN OR BOTTLE.

  1. but it does not finish there does it? you need a proper 'cradle to grave' assessment including the energy used to mine, make, transport, recycle or dispose of the packaging. from what i have read, the plastic is better because it takes less energy to produce in the first place and less energy to recycle. of course, both of them are vastly worse than making up your own squash with tap water and using a non disposable water bottle.

  2. with the can all the mining, smelting, processing transportation costs I think is much more expense

with the bottle you still have some of the same transportation costs but you can make alot more bottles from a tonne of petroleum solvents than you could make from a tonne of a zinc/tin mixture

weigh out a 500ml bottle and 500ml can both empty
