Thanks in advance. :o)

  1. First off, it's router. But, aside from that, NETGEAR is a good one, for the price. Linksys may be the highest rated product brand, but I've never had any good luck with it, thus making my product of choice: NETGEAR.

    Hope this helps,

  2. i would recommend LINKSYS router because its much more compatible with the at&t dsl modems

  3. use your modem you got from your provider and purchase a wireless router

  4. Well pretty much any DSL wireless modem/router will work. What brand you get is totally up to you. I and my friends all have the 2Wire model that AT&T offers. It was a good deal we got at sign up. If you don't want one of those just hit your local Best Buy/Circuit City and see what they have in stock. the next thing is whether you want wireless G or wireless N. there is a difference. The customer service rep will be able to help you out with with will be the best choice. D-Link makes the best though, so look into D-Link.

  5. Here's my experience:

Both Netgear and Linksys are good, in fact, my favorite brands. My first wireless router was a Netgear WGR614v6, and it worked like a charm. After that, I got into more advanced networking, and moved on to the Linksys routers, because you can re-flash their firmware to different operating systems. The newer Netgears, however, have had a few issues. In our shop, we see more of them/get more complaints about them than we do on the linksys ones, even though we primarily sell linksys routers. Signal dropping, port forward issues, and the whatnot. The linksys ones, on the other hand, have been fairly good. Their main issue comes from it not clearing connections fast enough, and getting bogged down to the point of needing to be reset.

I prefer Linksys nowadays. If you go Linksys, stay with Wireless G, it's good enough to fit your needs, and then some. The only models I recommend are the WRT54G-L, and the WRT54G-S. Avoid the one without the L or S (WRT54G), they have half the memory, and lock up sometimes. I know less about the Netgears, but the WGR614 series has always been good to me.

***My favorite, all-time router was Buffalo's WHR-HP-G54, re-flashed with DD-WRT. But due to a lawsuit, it's currently off the market. The Linksys one I mentioned is the best alternative I've found. In fact, Newegg has a GREAT deal on the S-series right now: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as... . Hopefully, I helped, and if you need anything else, feel free to email/IM me!

*Edit: Sorry, but I don't recommend D-Link. We never have good luck with them, and setup is a pain. Same with Belkin. The 2-Wire combos are nice (Mom has one at her house), but extremely limited in features, and impossible to tweak just right. For average users, they're good, though.
