  1. It sounds like some details may be left out of this question.

    1.  Have you worked for this company for a long time?  If so, did they come to you on payday and require you to do direct deposit?

    2.  Or did you just start with the company and part of the requirements for working for them is direct deposit, but you never set it up?  (A lot of companies are switching to direct deposit for cost reasons)

    3.  If it was "dropped" on you, I would go to HR or the manager and request a "resonable time to set up direct deposit" and that in the meantime they pay you.  If they are not willing to "work with you" and it wasn't part of a "contract" you signed, then I would report them.  Better Business Bureau, State Labor Commission, and honestly I would consider taking it to the media.

  2. That does sound against the law, but I'm not for sure if it really is.  if you have been given checks and all of a sudden they force direct deposit on you, without notification, you could possibly notify the human resource office about that.  And find out if you can remain anonymous.  If they did not have you sign anything, thing they should not force that upon you.  In my opinion, it is against the law, because you cannot hold back wages, that somebody worked for.

  3. I don't think they can do that, but why are you fighting it?  Direct Deposit is the only way I've ever gotten paid.  Why would you want an actual check?

    Just do direct deposit!

  4. Doesn't sound right.  Call the better business bureau.
