Can anyone describe the move Vijay Singh does to start

his swing? I know he kicks in his right knee. But, there something additional that allows him to rebound into his backswing. As a high handicapper, sometimes I stand frozen over the ball - trying to start that darn swing.

  1. Vijay has done a swing change, but even with his old swing he does kick in right knee a little to start.  I like Vijay, good player and I hope he wins again.

He kicks in that right knee at slight angle, bumps forward a bit and starts the swing.  He doesn't need to rebound at the top of his back swing because he transfers his weight to his right leg once he does his big turn.  As he swings, he releases his left knee, so it too goes at an angle.

    Here's my cheesy diagram:

  2. The easiest thing that I've found for golfers that get "frozen" over the ball, is to hover the clubhead off of the ground at address.  Jack Nicklaus and Greg Norman both did this, especially with the Driver.  By doing this your arms are already working and ready to start the backswing.

I've also found this to help some who develop the yips in putting and chipping.

  3. I know what you mean,  awful feeling that, especially on the first tee or in front of a crowd.  What i ve found that works, is to spend the build up to playing and the round itself with a song in your head, that has a really good rhythm,  one that coincides with your natural rhythm,  this will relax your mind and muscles and get your swing in a repetitive groove which really is what golfs about.  Give it a go,  I like a song called ''Clubfoot'' By Kasabian.  One thing Vijay does is a slight forward press with his hand to initialise the take away,  although this can encourage swaying.  Hope something here is useful.

  4. Vijay has completely overhauled his swing this past year and it's still a work in progress. So it would be difficult to analyze where he is right now.

I'd suggest that you loosen up by developing a little waggle before your takeaway. That should help you get over the "frozen" state.
