Can dogs eat broth??

Question

Might sound like an odd question but can dogs eat ham broth? I made it myself using a broth mix of beans, pulses, lentils etc (the usual stuff) and a ham shank. I have some left over, can I mix it in with my dog's feed to use it up?

As long as it isn't too salty, sure you can.

Many soups and broths are made with onions, which are highly toxic to dogs.  That is the main item I would be concerned about, though excess salt is also bad for dogs since they maintain their electrolyte balance a little differently than we do.  If it's made with garlic, that's also bad, though not as toxic as onion.

The dogs love it, without salt of course. My lot love it when I make good old fashioned broth cause they know they're going to get some. Don't forget the bread. I'm hungry now, can I have some please!

I think that would be safe for them to eat My dog has some when my family has leftovers.  She loves it and eats all of her food right away.  Trust me and my 7 year old dog Claire, it is safe.

My Mother in law makes broths especially for her dogs...she uses mince and carrots and rice...but oats are better than rice..they love it and it is very healthy.
