I live with my parents and my brother. My brother and I are below age 18.My mom is the only one working and my dad is retired and is too old to work. We're just able to keep up with the bills and my mom has to work full time as much as she can. Is there anything the government can do to help with this financial stress?

  1. Is your Dad collecting his Social Security Retirement Benefits?  Does the state you live in have a welfare program for financial aid, food stamps and medical?  You may qualify for some aid if your family's combined income is low enough.  Go to churches or local food banks. Some have clothes and household items and different programs to help with utility bills and transportation costs.  Maybe you and your brother can get a paper route, or if you are old enough, a part-time job after school or on weekends.

The most important thing is not to stress out.  Talk to your parents about your concerns.  Work together on it as a family.

  2. your mom might be able to apply for food stamps if you are full time students i think.  is your dad receiving social security? call your local welfare department they will be better to answer your question.
