we have a pool in the back garden right now because its warn for a change in the north east england :) - the pool is small, just one a 3 year old can get into

My friends were in the garden and my 2 year old brother was in the pool. I put out the two guinea-pigs, 1 year old bunches and Cookie who's 7 months, with a bowl of water and food my mam came in the house and said bunches jumped into the pool and started swimming :O

I didn't know guinea-pigs could swim

  1. Yes, Guinea Pigs can swim. Here I looked up a swimming Guinea Pig video for you:

  2. According to a quick Google search they can! Surprised me too :)

Btw, here in County Durham it sure isn't warm, you lucky thing

The best I can describe it is...mild with a slight chill o_O

  3. Apparantly so (according to Wikipedia - though this isn't always correct). Personally, I don't see how they can! Little tiny claw feet and big fat bodies....mine would just bob about (or die from heart failure).

Where in the North East are you? Please email me and let me know! I am in the North East and it sure ain't warm enough for a pool!!

  4. The fact is that, they can! I used to have 2 guinea pigs...and when i bathe them i always put them in a small tub with lukewarm water. I put 1 guinea pig in the tub and you know what he did? He started paddling around the tub and swimming :)

  5. I had a guinea pig...but he was TERRIFIED of water...and i really dont think they can swim...but i could be wrong

  6. depending if your guinea pigs like water ,i think its weird cause most guinea pigs dont like water my guinea pig runs away from me when i get him on the pool

  7. While they appear to know how to swim, they really shouldn't. It will stress them out so much you might lose them. Bath them in 1-2inches of water, and don't make them swim.

  8. According to Wikipedia, they are very good swimmers. The German name for them is Meerschweinchen - little sea pigs. I haven't tested this out on my own pets yet though!

Answering person number 3 is right, and it's a good idea to make sure they're kept warm until they're totally dry. As with many mammals, washing the fur will remove oils from the skin and fur, which will lead to your Caveys losing body heat much faster than usual.

  9. Give me a break.  They can't.

  10. yes they can swim, mine love to have a plastic tray(like the bottom of a hamster cage) with 1-2 inches of cool water in the bottom, they jump in and out of it when its in their run and paddle around in hot weather. its not a great idea to make them swim, as it will be quite stressful to them, but they are able to do so. also another good idea ot keep them cool is freeze an empty 2ltr water bottle and wrap a light weight towel round it,place in their run adn they lie on it and around it to keep cool.

  11. LOL!

Dear the person who wrote the first answer: SHUT UP!

But yea you can bath them. They can swim too they quite like it and they don't get wet tail like hamsters or anything! Just make sure you dry them properly and they're noses are clean.

    =]

  12. haha! Awww, that would be so cute.

Like mini dogs in the sea.
