Can i get food stamps?

I am 17 years old, in the state of Texas it is legal for me to move out. I am moving out in February of 2009, am i able to get food stamps if i have a low income. or will they go by my parents income? they are not helping me what so ever with any type of payments or anything like that... can someone help me??

From my understanding, you can't receive food stamps unless you have dependent children.

But I live in CA so the laws on this might be different in TX.
