Can i substitute notebooks with folders?

i was thinking to substitute my assignment notebooks with individual folders. i am using one binder for all my 8 subjects and i want to minimize the amount of space used. it would be used for homework and class work.

If you are using ONE binder per class.. than that would be fine.. but you will need to paper in each binder.
