  1. That is a question you should ask your pharmacist , or the Dr. who prescribed it.

The pharmacies have computer programs that cross reference different drugs to spot any problems that may occur with mixing them.

  2. Yes.  Optivar is a selective H1 histamine antiagonist which inhibits the release of histamine from mast cells in the blood.  Lotemax is a steroid which inhibits overall inflammation in a totally different manner.  The two can be used together BUT Lotemax (being a steroid) is not something you would want to use for prolonged allergy control because of the possible long term side effects of steroids.  It is best used for short term acute allergy control.  Whereas, optivar is really designed for ongoing longterm ocular allergy control.  So, if you need to use Lotemax for acute flare ups go ahead and do so but try to control your chronic allergy symptoms with optivar alone.  There are a couple of other long term allergy medications that you may do as well or better with than optivar.  You might look into Patanol (requires a prescription from your doctor) or Zaditor (has relatively recently been changed to an over the counter drug requiring no doctor prescription).
