  1. The link below will explain it.

  2. EVP's are quite frankly a way of communication with an intelligent haunting.

An intelligent haunting is a spirit or energy that interacts within it's surroundings, by pulling energy from the area around them.

Most evp's are not clear but there is no explanation for the noises being made, and are open for interpretation.

However most respectable paranormal investigators will not pull or stretch the recordings or even play it backwards.

We don't know what the other side has to offer and we don't know how they make noises or things move all we have are opinions and theories.

The only way for us to truly know is to keep researching, investigating and studying the unknown.

  3. what TR said is right except I dont agree with the opinion. In actuality it is akin to a ouji board and actually can create disturbances in a once ok area because the act itslef is sort of "calling forth" entities. Realise these entities if they were once human are trapped here and desperate to be heard and desperation can make you do some pretty radical things once you think someone notices you but if they werent human, you dont want mess with whatever you got ahold of either. So its better not to do it.its just another door we can open and it shows the increble power we are as spiritual beings in our own right that we can do it and therefore must be respected enough to be left alone.

  4. I agree with TR, but I think that some EVP's maybe explained by interference from radio transmissions.  I went to a site that posted EVP's from members of their group.  One sounded like it was saying "seventy three" to me, I forget what they thought it was saying.  73 is ham radio lingo for goodbye.  I'm not convinced that they are anything that can not explained away by normal science.

  5. Its what TR said.

The basic flaw in the theory is that ghosts or spirits can either make sound, or manipulate magnetic and or electronic recordings directly.

Making sounds requires somehow creating vibrations in the air, which could only be done in the spirit world by whats known as a poltergiest or "noisy ghost" know to be able to move things. There is no evidence however that poltergiests can create the sounds of speech. No ordinary ghost, such as the spirit of your deceased Uncle Harold, could possibly produce sound waves, because they have no mass, much less vocal cords. This pretty much rules out ghosts talking into the microphone.

Magnetic and electronic manipulation can pretty much be ruled out if you believe ghosts are dead people. Do you think you could move the magnetic media around with your finger so well that you could create speech? No, nobody could produce speech like that. It would have to be the ghost of some kind of super genius, and quite frankly there are a lot more EVPs than there are dead super geniuses.

  6. EVP stands for Electronic Voice Phenomena, referring to the belief that spirits can communicate with the living by having their spirit "voices" recorded on tape or electronic media. Typically, what happens is a ghost hunter goes around with a tape recorder and asks the spirits questions, then waits for a response while the recording is running. Later, he goes back to his computer or audio equipment and performs a number of manipulations on the recording (usually extreme amplification, sometimes frequency filtering, stretching/compressing or even reversing) until he finds something that can be construed as a word or phrase from the beyond.

In my opinion, all this is is audio pareidolia (see first two links). The third link is to a pro-paranormal website which takes a pretty logical approach to the EVP craze. I recommend reading through everything they have to say.

EDIT: John S, good point -- radio interference should not be overlooked
