  1. A helium balloon will rise in principal until the density of the air around it is equal to the density of the helium in the balloon. How high this is depends on the pressure of the helium in the balloon. Large helium-filled balloons that are used to carry telescope to make astronomical observations can go all the way up to 100,000 feet in altitiude.

  2. I'll tell you this....

I had a mylar balloon (the silver ones) anyway it was a huge one a lot larger than normal.  I got it for my birthday - anyway, I tied a note to it and placed the note in a baggie and tied it to the balloon then let it go.

Well, It went higher and higher and a huge jet airline looked like it was going to hit it then I got scared.  Well anyway, on the evening news my mother said that the people in the plane saw my balloon and they were speaking about safety.

I was scared because I put my name and info on it....

  3. well helium is one of the lightest of gases and it can go upto a height of 35 km above sea level.....also the size of the balloon also matters in this cases....
