Ok, so...

in the Batman: the Dark Knight movie, what does the part towards the end mean?? I don't understand exactly why Batman runs away, and does anyone know what happens to the Joker at the end??

Aaaahh I'm confused, if anyone could just expain most of the movie that would be great. ( :

Batman runs away because the cops are after him.  The cops think that he murdered Dent and all of Dent's victims.  He wanted the cops to think that he did it so Dent didn't look like the villain because as he said Gotham needs a White Knight.

Assuming either the Joker went to jail or got away was most likely something that the director wanted for the audience to decide in their minds.  But in all honesty, the director fully intended to make another Batman movie with the Joker in it.  This movie was finished before Ledger's death.
