Can someone teach me to swim?

Can some one teach me because im starting to go to the YMCA and i dont wanna look like a punk. nothin flashy just how to swim.

Usually, the best time to hit the Y pool is either really early in the morning or late at night - that's when you have the fewest people around and it's easier to learn, because there aren't many distractions and the water is a little quieter, which does make a difference when you're learning.

Bottom line is that about the only place you can learn how to swim is in a pool and you need an instructor.  Whether that pool is at the Y or in someone's back yard or at a hotel or wherever, it's important that you have a GOOD instructor.  You need somebody who's going to be patient with you, because most adults, when they first get in the water, are worried they'll drown.  Once you get over that and learn the basics of floating and a few simple strokes, you can progress at your own speed.

Just remember that the easiest way to look like a punk in the water is to be drowning and need some musclebound lifeguard to pull you out of the water and try to get you breathing again!  :-)  That does NOT impress the women!!!!

Learn how to do it right the first time and you won't be a danger to yourself or anyone else.

Coming from a scarred person whose drowned twice, I suggest observing youtube videos first =p for the technique, then try it out in the bath tub (just kidding......about the bath tub)

depends on where you live, its probabaly too far away. all you do is start to paddle kick with a board then on the side of the pool you kick then you use nothing and hold your hands in fornt of you and kick then you move your arms. its easy.
