I just had my eye exam and I noticed that the CYL for my right eye changed... is it odd that the CYL for both my eyes are now the same?

Now:

Right eye: SPH -10.50 CYL +1.50 AXIS 114

Left eye: SPH -10.00 CYL +1.50 AXIS 78

Old prescription:

Right eye: SPH -10.00 CYL +2.25 AXIS 111

Left eye: SPH -9.00 CYL +1.50 AXIS 80

Thanks everyone!

  1. An astigmatic error is only a specialised version of short or long sight and is just as likely to change, or stay still, as the Sphere component.

Statistically there is a recognisable slow drift of change, with your type of astigmatism "With the rule", the majority of cases, tending to reduce slowly over adult years.  But that's an average of the population as a whole.  There's plenty of room for an individual eye to do whatever it likes.

  2. it IS possible for the Cyl to change over time.  but, how old is your old prescription?  a change from 2.25 to 1.50 is a big difference (3 steps down) for a one year old Rx, but not so much for a prescription that's ,say, five years old.

no, it's not strange that the Cyl in your right eye is the same as the one in your left.  actually, it's probably better now that the Cyl is the same in both eyes.
