  15. In this situation, it would be declared a 'dead ball'. This is covered in the Laws of Cricket, Law 23, 1 (a) (iv) 'Whether played or notit lodges in the clothing or equipment of a batsman or the clothing of an umpire'.

If the ball becomes dead after the striker has had an opporunity to play the ball, then no additional delivery will be allowed.

In the situation above, the result would be a draw or a tie. The ball has become dead when it lodges in the batsman's pad. Irrespective of whether he completes his run, it is impossible for a run to be scored, or for a wicket to be taken.

As the scores were level, the result is a draw, in a first class match, or a tie, in a limited overs game.
