Question:

Can you breed dogs this way?

I have a friend who already has one dog that they bought from a breeder 2 years ago. The breeder then called them up and asked if they would look after a new puppy that they have. So my mates mum said yes, but they got it for free on the condition that it would go back to the breeder when it is older, for one day, so that it can mate with the new puppies she will have, which means it will be the puppy's younger sister.

Can this happen?

  1. Yes, dog breeders often mate dogs with their relatives because the breeder wants to keep the bloodline going.  Nothing bad usually comes out of it, it actually happens a lot.

  2. thats inbreeding ewwww!

  3. I'm not following how this pup will be a younger sister to puppies yet to be born.  Doesn't sound like inbreeding to me.

  4. i don't think that would be good. It would be like you having babies with your younger brother or sister.

  5. I hear of alot of breeders doing this.

  6. Breeders do this but it doesn't make it right.  A very responsible breeder will list something called an 'inbreeding coefficient' - a percentage that tells you how closely related the parents are.  Needless to say this number should be very, very low - as in a fraction of a percent.

This is why seeing a dog's pedigree is so important when you're buying from a breeder.  You can look at the names on the pedigree and make sure that none of the parents are the same or related.

  7. Yes, but I see that as a form of BYB, but  I can't say for sure.  I'm no breeder, but I think that's like me and my brother!!

  8. Yes, this can be done and it is done and not all by bad breeders. Check out www.dogbreedinfo.com and look at breeding. There is something to do with generations. Only a good knowledgable breeder should do it because you DO have to know when to stop because when you go to far you get deformities and things. Check out this site and it will go in dept and explain completely how it goes.

  9. yes, but dont breed please. too many dogs who need homes already!

  10. PUPPY MILL!

sorry it sounds like one. its kinds wrong to do that

  11. Yeah, she sounds like a really great breeder NOT.  This is called inbreeding and the pups usually have lots of problems.
