Can you digest fingernails?

My cousin(18) has a problem with chewing his nails. The other day he was chewing and I made him laugh and he swallowed 3-4 nails that he had been chewing on. With this low amount can he digest them?

Finger nails are made of keratin which is a very stable protein.  It is not easy to digest as it is not broken down by the stomach enzymes as are other proteins.  The swallowed nails will not harm your cousin, but will probably be excreted in the f***s in an undigested state.
