I am going to be making a concrete table top, I saw that I can order steel legs for it. I'm just wondering, can I drill into the bottem of the table top to install them. Do you I use a masonary bit?

  1. Yes ! Hardware stores sell Tapcons and get the proper bit

  2. Yes you can.

Tools that you need will depend on how hard the concrete is.

At a minimum you will need and standard electric drill with a masonry bit.  An electric hammer drill with a masonry bit would be better.  If it is really hard or the hole is big you will need a larger rotor hammer to do the drilling.

Drilling in to concrete is more difficult than drilling into soft masnory like brick or mortar.

  3. Unless your making the corners, re-inforced and 4" thick, the anchors mentioned might blow-out the cement.   You'll be better off setting recessed cement form nuts into your mold before you pour it.

  4. You can use Tapcons, Wall Dogs, or any type of expansion anchors. You will need a hammer drill and a masonry bit either way. Don't use a regular drill it will take to long.
