  1. Has your Grandmother never eaten ColeSlaw?  .

All that is in it is Raw Cabbage, Raw Carrots, etc with a dressing.

I as a Raw Foodie eat many things RAW that I grew up thinking HAD to be cooked.. it's delightful.

  2. Yes.  I always eat it raw.

  3. Besides the cole slaw everyone else has mentioned, many salad mixes have purple cabbage in them, which not only adds nutrients, but adds a nice crunch.

  4. Well, I stand up for grandmothers!  My nan always gave us as many raw vegetables as she could - and certainly raw cabbage - and she knew the word 'coleslaw'.  I still love it, and my children were brought up to eat as much raw stuff as possible.  But there is the problem with wind ...

  5. It's not advisable. If you chop the cabbage, then you can wash it, and put it in a saucepan. You're not exactly cooking it, but your just killing germs. Place it in a saucepan (don't add water), and let it heat up for a few minutes. Stir the cabbage up, and then take it off the heat.

  6. You can eat raw cabbage, look at kimchee, it is essentially raw pickled cabbage. Obviously eat it in moderation as you should with all foods.

  7. Yes, cole slaw is made with raw cabbage.

  8. I remember having it served as part of a school dinner once many moons ago, done in pepper and vinegar. Mind you, it was horrible then, and I doubt if it's got much better ! ! !

  9. Of course you can what do you think is in coleslaw.

  10. The Happy Murcia: "nasty salad you get with a doner kebab"

    RUDE! the worlds finest salad!!

  11. i remember making coleslaw at school and we grated raw white cabbage to go in it(and raw carrot and onion)

you know nans can be a bit silly sometimes!

  12. Cabbage is one of the many vegetables which is better for you raw than it is cooked.  In fact, I think there's only carrots where the nutritional value is higher when they are cooked.

Raw cabbage is very good for you and is nice and tasty.  It provides lovely contrast in salads, being nice and crunchy.

  13. You can eat most veg raw,,My sister in law for example eats raw potatoes !!!,,raw cabbage can be found in many foods from coleslaw to the nasty salad you get with a doner kebab,,

  14. It's fine to eat raw cabbage.

Its in coleslaw, tell your grandma that.

  15. Raw cabbage...have you ever eatan coleslaw?  That is a lot of raw cabbage!

It is very good for your digestive system...'keeps you regular'

  16. Some types of cabbage are great  raw, others such as Savoy I wouldn't recommend, BUT listen to your gran, older people have a lifetime of knowledge to pass on and without that where we be today, some "old wives tales" are full of wisdom

  17. Raw cabbage is awesome.  I pour wine vinegar on it and a little pepper.  It has never made me sick.  Go for it, it is delicious.

  18. Cole slaw is raw cabbage.

  19. Raw cabbage is lovely. Obviously don't pig-out on it.

  23. The cabbage in COLESLAW is raw.

  24. Coleslaw is made with raw cabbage so, yes, you can eat it.

  25. Cole slaw is made from raw cabbage.  Cabbage, mayo, pickle relish, dill, salt and pepper.

  26. Oh,my yes,cabbage is fantastic raw.

Try to make sure its either organic or you wash it to death due to chemicals.

I eat so much cabbage you wouldn't believe,i often substitute it for lettuce if lettuce isn't ready to pick from my garden..

If you have a garden grow your own, there is nothing like the taste of homegrown and you know whats in it,no nasty chemicals.

  27. It depends on the type of cabbage.

White cabbage (that you use to make coleslaw) tastes good raw and shredded.  However, all the green cabbages taste better cooked (for a very short amount of time).  This is because they contain more sulphurous compounds, which are removed in the cooking process.  Try eating a leaf raw - the smell left on your breath is the sulphur, and it's actually quite unpleasant, if not bad for you.

  28. raw cabbage is really nice, especially with peanut butter. yes i must admit that it sounds gross but it is gorgeous. and have it instead of lettuce with a salad. its yum yum!!! also another nice raw vegetable is cauliflower with a pinch of salt. it is really crisp!!!

  29. Yes you can eat cabbage raw just wash it well

  30. I LOVE raw cabbage.

Your grandmother may think that because it made her sick.

As long as you wash it first, you can eat it. It is devine. A lot of green veg is lovely raw. Spinnach, Broccoli, Sprouts... and of course, Lettuce, which is a green vegetable and is ALWAYS eaten raw.

  31. My grandma told me you shouldn't have milk with meat!

She also told my mum that you shouldn't eat fish or eggs while you're waiting for a wound to heal properly (my mum had just had a lumpectomy after chemo)

I have NO idea why you shouldnt do any of the above...

Anyway, your grandma probs said that to you so that you would eat her cooked cabbage soup.

    Bleuuurgh.
