Assume that the total surface area of the earth is not changing. If new material is being added to the earth's crust at one boundary, what would you expect to find happening at another boundary?

  1. Subduction which destroys some crust of the Earth.  This would occur at a convergent boundary, and almost always between a continental plate and oceanic plate.

If you do not consider the sides of mountains as surface area, then another possible answer would be mountain building at a convergent boundary between two continental plates.  However, I think this is a long shot for what you want. The first one is, by far, the better of the two possibilities.

  2. hello,

Well first of all what do you mean by new material. Is it strong material of weak. (not criticizing your question).

Well what would happen if it was some really hard material is that one plate would have to sift if one of the plates shift thatthe other boundry will have an enourmous pressure building up inbetween them were takking about earths crust which we live on. There are certain possibilities.

    1) fold mountain

    2)earth quake

    3)fault line

    bye....
