my 8 year old male cat has been acting a little strange lately. sometimes he would start screeching & whining at my door and wake me up in the middle of the night. so i follow him and he leads me right to his food and water bowls. but the food and water are both full and they arent stale, i'd just filled them that same day. whats his problem?

  1. Have you consulted with a vet?

It could be an intestinal issue or a kidney problem.

I do not think the cat is looking for affection, I think there is a serious physical problem and should be examined by a physician.

  2. I would call your vet RIGHT AWAY, he may be getting early Alzheimer's, seriously.  I'm not joking, call you vet.  They will probably want him in for a check up.

  3. Does he have a problem with hairballs? Sometimes when their digestive tracts become upset they will act strangely around their food.

  4. I would only give him canned food as a last resort - after consulting with your vet.  BUT, I am wondering, did this perhaps start with a new bag of food or did you maybe change food brands or types?  I am thinking that he may think there is something wrong with his food, and maybe there is. Do you see him eating it during the day?  Once or twice a year, we are invaded by ants, and sometimes that swarm my cats food. I tend to learn this when my cats come crying to me and lead me back to their food.  That is one reason I'm wondering about the food.  I know that he eats it eventually if you give it to him, but I know my sickly cat will do just about anything if I tell him it's okay -  even when he knows it's not and we end up back at the vet - like jump off the bed b/c the vet said he should be fine in a couple months, when in fact his bones were bad & I helped him make it worse. Just a thought.

Beyond that, I definitely would ask the vet before doing anything else.  I keep thinking that maybe his stomach is upset, but I doubt that. I'm thinking the alzheimer's suggestion might be in the right ball park.  He may be confused about something.

    Good luck!

  5. Sounds like he wants attention.

  6. he might want to have different food or he might be sick so i would see your vet

    p.s. hope his alright
