Can you just change your name?

Do you just tell everyone that you'd like to be referred to as whatever it is?

What would you think if someone said they want to be referred to with a different name?

Thanks

  1. Yup, its up to you. I guess its their choice, but if it was just like they were called Isabella before and were called Bella, and now they wanted to be called Izzie, its normal, I'd respect their wishes. But it would be a bit weird if a girl called MAtilda suddently wanted to be called Charlotte or something!!

  2. Yeah you can just change your name

Depends what there name was in the first place

Or maybe they might of done a scam

  3. call them by that name!!!

  4. sure, why not. i would just ask them why.

  5. You'd have to legally change it, fill out some forms, get new ID, driver's license, credit cards etc. It's not free.

  6. yeah why not? if you hate your name tell people to call you something else. im getting people to call me by my nickname these days coz some people have trouble remembering my name

  7. you can say "I'd prefer to be known as _____" but in legal situations e.g. exams, passport etc you have to use your birth name unless you change it by deed poll.

  8. You can legally change your name once you are old enough to do so.

If you choose to tell people a different name you can always say that it is your nickname and you would prefer to be known by that name.

If someone were to tell me that they wanted to be referred to by a different name i would respect their wishes and call them by that name.

  9. Wait if your seriously thinking about your changing your name you have to do it through a soliciter. It's called changing your name by deed pole.

If your just doing it as a nickname, just ask people what you liked to be called
