A guy walks into a hardware store to buy an specific item!! He asks an assistant how much is one? The assistant says, "20p", he asks how much is two? "20p" he then asks how much is, three, four, five or six? He receives the same answer each time of 20p. he then asks how much is ten?? The answer is "40p" He then asks how mush is 17, 23, 45, 67 or 98. Each time he receives the same answer of 40p....

What is the object he wishes to buy???

  1. They are numbers to put on his house, the numbers are 20p a per number.

One must assume that the cost scheme is "Buy one get 8 free" because 1 costs 20 pence, and there is no price change until the quantity becomes 10. As to what particular item is sold in batches of 9's, I have no earthly idea. I am guessing that the questioner is from the UK so I am really not sure what the item might be.
