Canadian Visa ?

Hi guys !

I applied for my permanent residence visa a few months ago (my spouse is Canadian) and i just checked on line and it said `decision made and you will hear from our office shortly` Got my post today and had a letter telling me to take in my passport and 2 visa photo`s (to the London High Commission) but not to make any travel plans or sell the property until i receive my passport and visa !

Is that it ? Is there anything else i will have to do or will that be it ? I thought it would take a lot longer than this so i am asking you guys for a reality check !

I just don't want to celebrate too early ! LOL

(its only taken about 3 months to process and the website said an average of 6-8 months)

Many thanks

  1. For information about passports and visas to get into Canada, check out this page I've found for you.

  2. The "average" wait period may have been 6-8 months for other applicants, but if all your papers are in order and you gave the right answers on the forms, then it may have gone smoother for you.

For example, here in Canada I was told that my passport could take 4-5 months to obtain due to a backlog with all the new security issues and people applying. I had my papers submitted in about 90 minutes at the passport office, and got my passport about three weeks later.

    Sometimes you get lucky!

All they are saying in the letter you received is that your file was processed and it looks like they accepted it and want you to get a passport and visa photos ready.

If they find something else during the visa preparation that they missed earlier, they may still abort the process. And it may still take another few months to get the actual visa back to you, which adds on to the processing time.

So be happy it took less time, but don't cancel your rental agreement until you have the papers in your hand! Then you know you have the right paperwork.

  3. If you leave Canada without your permanant res card you cant get back in without it.  I just got my visa it takes a few weeks for them to get your passport back to you and you need that to fly out of country.  thats why they say dont travel.  That should be it.  you will need to get landed at the border or the airport once you obtain the perman res. card.  thats the last step
