Cancun for romance?

Question

Our 10 year wedding anniversary is in October, we would like to take a romantic/relaxing vacation but are on a budget so we're thinking Mexico we'll get the most bang for our buck.

Looking on Hotwire and Orbitz, etc I'm overwhelmed, what part would be nice to stay?

Playa De Carmen?

Riveria Maya?

I found a place called the GR Solaris that has good ratings and decent reviews but it's Cancun , not sure if that is good or bad?!

There is a new Iberostar in Mexico that is called the Iberostar Grand Paraiso.  It is more romantic and for couples and persons 18 and older.  Google it and you will be able to see it all.  It is also an all-inclusive resorts.

It is located about 30 to 45 minutes south of Cancun in the Riviera Maya.  You are about 30 minutes from Playa Del Carmen for shopping.  If you go shopping Iberostar has a bus that will take you to and from shopping at no charge.

When people ask about Cancun and mention they hear it is very comercial, to that I say, "Yes it is but it is also very romantic". I highly recommend Cancun for a wedding anniversary, and do not worry, the Centro (Downtown) area is going to be a minimum of 8 Km away from any place I will recommend you consider staying.

The first thing you are going to need to decide on is not which website to book on, but if you want to stay at an All-Inclusive resort with food and beverages included in the total price with the room, or room only. If you stay on an EP plan, do not worry, you won't go hungry, Cancun has literally hundreds of restaurants to choose from. Many people prefer staying at an EP resort because they enjoy going out and exploring the local food scene, and believe me it is quite extensive with every type of fare to choose from. The other thing to consider is price. If you prefer to stay at your resort for most of the day and you enjoy having a few beverages, you will probably do better price wise if you stay at an All-Inclusive resort.

When you stay AI, it is often a challenge to find a good, high quality romantic resort, without spending some dinero. Here are a few AI resorts I highly recommend you investigate:

Riu Palace Las Americas-high end AI, few families with children stay here, advantage is you get to use the facilities at the next door Riu Cancun (more families with kids stay here).

Dreams Resort-great resort in a fantastic location, within walking distance to the Party Center where many great clubs are located, the resort has dolphin experience and is a favorite place for weddings.

Le Blanc Spa Resort-high end adults only property

The Royal in Cancun-high end adults only

Golden Parnassus-moderate range adults only

The Bel Air Collection-moderate price range, excellent restaurant and geared toward adults but not adults only property.

The very best place to go for romance! The Palace Resorts has a couples only on the Riveria Maya which is absolutely the best for romance. They have a double jacuzzi, great views of the ocean, turn down service, champagne on arrival.

My daughter went there on her honeymoon and just raved about the hotel. We've gone w/ another couple and had a great time. Don't forget to have the massages offered and let them fuss over you.
