Question:

Car Problem - Oil Light?

Okay so me and my mom were driving in my toyota corolla (about 4 yrs old now and just had oil lube filter change about a month ago. nothing major done to it except replacing front brakes) and as we`re pulling into a drive in, the oil light goes off and my car starts slowing down. and no matter how much i press the gas pedal, it won`t go. it`ll let me turn but wont let me apply any more gas to the engine. so i get out and we check the oil filter. and i`m used to the filter stick saying either low or high but this one says hot or cold and the oil line was pretty low on the cold so i`m assuming that`s bad? my mom thinks its a leak in the oil? and if that`s it, would it be safe putting just enough oil in it to drive it to sts to get it repaired rather then having it towed? oh, and what kind of oil do corolla`s usually take?

thanks!

  1. u need some trans fluid and when u get some in it so it will move take it to a garage and have it checked...the hot and cold means that when u check the trans fluid when the engines hot the fluid should be on that line or a little below...when u check it with the engine cold it should be at that line or a little below...trans.fluid expands under heat and that's why there's two marks.....go to any parts store tell them what kind of car u have and they will show you what they have for transmission fluid

  2. u proboble need 2 change ur oil

No - you check the oil level using the oil dipstick

NO - that is the TRANNY dipstick. If you don't know then it is BEST you take it to a mechanic before you cause MORE damage.

Basically your oil level is low OR your oil pressure is low (bad oil pump).  And because your car won't move and the tranny dipstick was also low, it seems like your tranny oil is low too.

AGAIN don't put in wrong oil in to the wrong place AND/OR don't over fill.  Those are great way to destroy your engine / tranny.

    Good luck...
