Car crash: yellow lines involved.?

Today, I (friend with me) was parked on a double yellow line because a light appeared on my dashboard, Soon afterwards, a man reversed out of a driveway (outside his business), and backed into me, lifting up my car slightly and causing a large scratch on the right side of my car near the wheel (i was in the vehicle) and there could be a problem with steering to the right (i hear a clicking sound occasionally. He had a scratch on his left-rear bumper. Just to note, I was on the other side of the road to his business.

So we exchange details, and i drive off. I tell my dad (i'm 17) he calls the guy and tries telling my dad that i'm not allowed to park on the yellow lines and so it is not entirely his fault after my dad asks is he claiming responsibility. Anyways, there was alot of legal debate going on afterwards, i'm just wondering does this guy have a case? and how should me and my dad approach the situation in terms of getting the car fixed up?

Technically he would be at fault, whether you were sitting still or moving, as he was the one who was backing out and it's his job to pull out only when the way is clear.

You pulled over to the middle of the road, on the yellow lines? I think i just misunderstood you lol, because usually you pull over to the side of the road, or into a parking lot/driveway. Still if you were holding still and he backed into you, I still believe that it is all his fault

If your car was sitting still and he hit you, there is no question that "he" is responsible.    First of all that is the case.   Your car was parked, not moving.    Secondly, he crossed a double yellow line and hit your car with enough force to do damage.   It should be clear who is at fault.

He failed to yield to traffic one way or the other.

Anytime that a person in backing out of where ever that person has to be in complete control of the vehicle and no matter what, if that person hits you or something it would be their fault.
