Car flip for profit HELP?

I've heard many times that states have limits on how many cars you can sell per year before you need a dealer's license. I'm wondering if I was able to buy a car not only under my name, but under a family member's name, friend, spouse, etc and get away with it? Like for ex. if a state limit is 3, and I sell 3 cars under my name, 3 under my dads name, 3 under my mom etc per year...will that work?

btw anyone know the california state limit on how many cars can be sold before a dealer's license is required?

  1. Sure, you can do it just like that.  It isn't illegal at all.  It's called a LOOPHOLE.  The previous comment about your neighbor is correct though.  As long as you are being considerate to them by not parking 4 cars at a time on the street for weeks on end you should be just fine.  Make sure you only have one car parked in the driveway and make sure it is REGISTERED prior to sale.  If not, anyone can call to have it ticketed or even towed.

  2. I belive if you have the cars registerd and insured you can sell and many as you want. hint...if you dont want to do it that way go to autolicense.net and get a dealer licnese with no lot required and its all done on the internet..

  3. Get caught and it is not worth the penalty. It is also pretty hard to flip cars because so many people are selling right now. The limit on sales is 5 per year. BTW....if your neighbors catch wind of this practice they will help shut you down and the fine will be stiff.

  4. Don't for get to use your dog's name also.

  5. I know many people who have done it successfully the way you describe, whether or not its strictly legal I don't know
