I am driving a 2004 Honda Element and it seems as if at times I am having trouble accelerating. I am unsure what might be causing it. My car's tires are old and I think need a little air, as well my check engine light has not come on. Can anyone give me some advice on this problem.

  1. my advice is to take it to a shop and have it checked out. they have the diagnostic tools and so forth to identify the problem(s)

  2. air up the tires.  change the oil.  have a tune up done.  change the airfilter.

if these don't work, take it to a garage...

  3. Low air pressure in the tires and a dirty air filter could be likely culprits and easy fixes. It could also be time for a tune-up.  How closely do you follow the recommended maintenance schedule? If it were something malfunctioning, like a plugged catalytic converter, your check engine light would come on.

  4. if all of the following things hello has suggested has no effect you need to have your catalytic converter checked it could be clogged...
