is the passenger side or driver side mirror convex

  1. The passenger side mirror is convex because it's farther away from the driver. A standard mirror at that distance would provide a very small field of view.

    The convex mirror eliminates many blind spots and is far safer.


  2. I think some side mirrors have a second, smaller round mirror attached which looks like a bump...that one is convex.  It seems to magnify - making things appear larger/closer.

    In general, though my mirrors appear flat, I'd expect they are concave (like a shallow bowl) as they make the images appear farther away than they are...hence the warning sticker: "objects in mirror are closer than they appear"...it's not just a Far Side joke!
