have just bought some 4 inch speakers by accident, was meant to get 6inch. (dont know too much about sound systems) so my question is are these going to be louder and clearer sound than a 95 astra standard fit pair (6").

new speakers specs

One Pair 4'' Two-way Speaker Systems

Power Handling: 90 Watts Rms / 180 Watts Max

Non-fatiguing Butyl Rubber Surround

3/4'' High Temperature ASV Voice Coil

Standard 4'' Size Fits OEM Locations

Blue Poly Injection Cone

20 oz Magnet Structure

1/2'' Neodymium Film Dome Tweeter

Impedance: 4 Ohm

Sensitivity: 88 dB

Frequency Response: 110Hz - 20Khz

Mounting Depth: 1.95''

also what difference would having 6" over 4" be apart from there bigger

thanks

  1. Larger speakers produce more bass. Aftermarket speakers are usually better quality than OEM but you might have difficulty installing 4" speakers in the 6" hole without an adapter.

  2. These sound 100% better than the standard Astra ones. The fact they are 90 Watts RMS means they should sound loud as h**l. The chances are the stereo your running them on will not be pumping out 95 Watts RMS per channel.

As they are smaller, i think you can buy an adapter plate. Failing that, you can always make one out of MDF.

6" would have been better, however, these speakers sound really good so the average bloke would fail to tell the difference.

  3. Return them and get the proper size.  You will lose bass response.  Also be careful with the mounting depth if they are going in the doors...many times the doors take a slimmer fit.  www.crutchfield.com is a good resource for speaker sizes that will fit your vehicle, but make sure you ask a qualified installer, as there are some mistakes on the Crutchfield website.
