Car starting trouble?

I have a 1997 audi a4 and I've been having trouble lately with starting up my car. I would have to turn the key and hold it for about 6 sec until it actually turns on. It makes like a clicking noise, sometimes it starts out quiet like the battery is dead but then makes the clicking noise and finally turns on. This is also after i have charged my battery and it has plenty of battery when I turn it on, it says about 13 volts. I also found that when i put gas in it and has about 1/8th of a tank it'll start up right away. Is there something wrong with my battery, starter? What causing this to happen?

  1. get a new starter. the rattle is just piston shake it happens because the piston is smaller than the cyl. and it hasny heated up enough to expand your piston yet

  2. You gave a clue refering to filling the tank, With that said I would have the fuel pump checked out, sounds like you are loosing fuel pressure. even when the car sits for a couple of days, you should have fuel pressure so the car can start right up.
