Car stereo install?

Question

Can someone please give me simple instructions to install an after market stereo in my 2001 neon. It already had one but my hubby took it for our van. No, I don't want it done professionally.

None of these answers seem adequate.

Since you already had an after market radio in your vehicle, you aren't going to need any of the kits, harnesses, or whatever people are telling you to get unless you took that out as well, however, when you buy the parts for your car initially, you don't usually take them out because they were made for that particular car.

So, what you WILL need is electrical tape and strippers (to strip the color part off of the wires.) If you are connecting this to the factory harness then you'll have to do this inside of the car, however, if you had an after market harness in the car when you put the after market radio in, you can unplug the harness and do this comfortably.

On the back of the radio,  you have a harness with stray colored ends...on the harness in the car, you have stray colored ends. What you'll do is strip the color (about a half inch or so) and match up the colors by twisting the wires together. Then you'll have to wrap electrical (black tape) around the ends so that none of the wire show.

Now, I don't know how to take the radio (if you have one) out of your car or anything because that's different for each vehicle, but I'm sure you can look those instructions up online.

However, even though you want to do it yourself, I do recommend going to Circuit City (I don't know how any other installers work) because they sauter the wires together before putting the electrical tape on so that it's safer...and like someone else said...quicker. It may take them as long as an hour, but usually the time is around a half an hour. At Circuit City the cost is about $50.

easiest way is to go to your walmart or target and buy an install kit for 25.00

The best way is always having the professionals do it you dont want the wires to get crossed and you want it tucked and looking good

SIMPLE instructions!!!?  Oh my goodness.

Okay here's the only way i can think for you to get it done simply, without paying...get some poor schlob guy to do it!

(Yea, yea, sorry, I know, but it's true-)

Well, the thing is up untill the early 80's it WAS simple to install a radio --but since then cars are kind of designed to

1. be annoying

2.require special tools for no reason

3. resemble something unrecognizable

and 4. so in general DRIVE YOU to the store to PAY to have it done!

(well at least i THINK that's why they do it...

If you decide to try this yourself just by experimenting your way through it I'd caution one thing--->don't just wire it in and leave the radio sitting on the floor(get it INTO the dashboard, bolted in placeZ) or else you're gonna find a smashed window and a radio gone one day)..

                   (PS, I understand you wanting to save paying for an install, but I'm a guy and this is one of the things that I pay for!)  - it comes with a guarantee, and it's fairly quick too (wheras if you do it yourself you'll be struggling all afternoon!)

if you go to circuit city all you have to do is get kits tell them the type of radio and they will give u 2 harnest one that fits your radio and one that fits you stock harnest fitting all you have to do is snap both together you also need a radio antenna kit to hook the antenna to the radio and a radio bracket kit it will cost you about 50 - 60 bucks but all you have to do is s***w and snap everything into place (no wiring)
