I'm getting a pregnant guppy tommorow. I have a 20 gallon tank for her to go to when she's had the babies. But in the meantime I have a 5 gallon tank with a filter. I'm putting the mom in there so when she has babies I will remove her as soon as possible so the babies are inharmed. I was wondering, what happends if she gives birth at night and I miss it, I guess all the babies get eatin, right? xD Oh and 1 more question in the average litter how many usualy die?

PS:// Any other notes for me that I should know?

  1. I have bred guppies in the past, they usually give birth at night, if mom is alone then she is less likely to eat the babies(not saying that she won't though). Make sure it is well planted and that the babies have places to hide.

The average brood size is 2-12 baby guppies. When I bred them it was more 4-8 though. Get a guppy book too, it will help immensely.

  2. She will probably have, at the most, 20. Mine always have 18 or less. It is ok to put her in the 5 gallon. Guppies don't always have babies in the middle of the night. Mine don't. Mine always have them around 10 in the morning. Only one of my guppies had hers in the middle of the night. In case yours does then make sure you have a lot of plants for the babies. Not all will get eaten. Some most likely will but not all.

    Good Luck!!!!

  3. I started breeding guppies about three months ago and i have found that the easiest way to make sure the babies dont get eaten is if you put the female in a breeder tank with a divider so the mom cant eat the babies as soon as they are born.

THe only ones that have died in my tank are the ones that got eaten by the other fish.
