I have 2 female cats one loves to play but has nobody to play with because i am going back to school soon and the other cat hides in the crawl space all day she only comes out to eat and pee she loves to be alone for some reason we adopted her to be a playmate to buffy(active cat) but Polo( lazy cat) will not play. So I'm thinking to get a neutered male cat because i heard that they a very active and my female cat is spayed . will they get along or hate each other or maybe get another female cat. someone please help!

  1. It's usually better to mix the genders. Cats compete with the same gender. Maybe that's why Polo won't come out of the crawlspace.

  2. if you are really concerned about your cat having a playmate and being bored then i would consider getting a kitten or a male cat. females tend to like to do their own thing.

  3. get a kitten. we have a male cat and a female kitten. and - what can i say other than TOTAL MADNESS!! but it is cute.

  4. we have four cats - the male among three females is all play, sleep, and eat.  i would get a male kitten and allow the females to raise him.  you can get him neutered when he is old enough.

our vet always recommends an even number of cats - it gives everyone a companion.  you might consider getting liter mates if that is a possibility for you.

  5. I think as long as you get a younger cat (6 months is a super playful age!) it will be a great playmate.

Another thought - I have a male that is lazy in the house, but if he gets into the front yard - he runs around and jumps in the grass. Perhaps if you left the cats in a room where Polo couldn't get to the crawl space, that change in environment would make her more playful.

    Good luck!
