Cat fell off second story

Question

my 6 month old kitten likes showing off when i'm around.

so today he got up on our stair banister

and flipped over and fell right off of it onto the bottom floor of my house.

i didn't see the way he fell but i ran downstairs and he just kept running away from me.

hes sleeping now, should i be worried?

is there anything i should do?

he seems fine, hes not limping or anything.

uhh, i would suggest, that if he isnt acting normal when he wakes up, take to your vet monday, hope i could help

Every cat lands on their feet, and it doesn't hurt them at all!

He was probably running away because you were running fast towards him?

Wild type Cats are designed to take a fall but that does not necessarily mean with domesticated or any other wild cat that they can survive a fall if they land on something or the wrong way. They tend to right themselves in mid air so they can increase the chances of their survival but they can still be injured or hurt or killed. Chances are if your cat landed on softer grass then it was less likely to be hurt but it was very afraid from the fall or slightly injured such that it had fear about being touched. My experience with young and small animals is if they were seriously injured they will not survive even with help from a veterinarian but sometimes they can help sometimes they just charge money and can do nothing which tends to be the case.  But if a bone was damaged possibly they can do a scan which will cost you and immobilize the leg or part of the body. As you have waited all ready and if it is not staying to the side or limping then it may be ok. Be sure to feed the animal well and keep it warm because even if not injured it can go into shock for awhile from the fall and die.

It is up to you if you want to take it to a veterinarian but as I tend to raise very small animals I have learned most vets do not specialize in smaller animals which a kitten comes under that category. Watch for fever if it is eating well it is probably ok but not necessarily. If you can afford to take the kitten to a veterinarian to settle your mind most of all then I would suggest you do it along with fix  your windows so it cannot fall out if you leave them open with some sort of screening or protection. If you cannot afford to take your kitten to the veterinarian then why do you have an animal at all. Does it have all its shots you can take it for shots and mention that it fell from a window recently and the veterinarian if a good one will do a hands over check then if they want money or they think there is damage they will charge for an xray. Check around there are different veterinarians who charge different prices and the funny thing is I have found some that do it for a really decent price are very busy are very good and really care about their animals that go in their offices more so than the very expensive ones who often are clueless about their profession and say stupid things to my family that I know are really incorrect.  They probably have to charge more because they say stupid things to the very well educated people locally so they can afford to stay in business.  And they always carry that terrible food that animals will not eat that is very expensive that some company developed and say it is good for your pets better than store bought food so buy it. One of the best veterinarians I had never carried that food, was very busy and told me to feed my big dog bones from the butcher cook them in the oven first and to get food from the feed store because they usually carry very good inexpensive dog food along with add some vegetable oil and a fresh egg to the food. My dog loved all that food always ate her meal which was  the exact amount the doctor told me to feed the dog.  I would take my dog to the vet before going to the doctor for myself because I am more afraid of the doctor than my dog was of the veterinarians I found that were good.

Your kitten probably is due for shots and a check up so ease your mind and take it to the veterinarian. If you cannot afford much often dog shelters do the work for a lower price but call around and check to see about prices and listen to how they talk to you if you do not like the receptionist it is doubtful you will like the veterinarian who hired them is my experience.  I will drive to another city if needed for a good veterinarian who does work at a good price who is busy and I usually use vets my friends recommend.

feel him. put a little pressure under his stomach, don't be afraid to touch him. if you feel lumps, or if he acts like hes in pain then something is certainly wrong. otherwise he... may be okay. just keep a close eye on him.

he will probably be fine.  When my cat was the same age he ran up a thirty foot telephone pole next to our yard and the fire department and power companies wouldn't send someone out to help us get him down.  On the third day we knew we would have to find a way to get him to jump so we got him wet with the hose and he jumped and was fine.

I suggest keep an eye on it. My cat last year fell out of my kitchen window two stories up, she did not have time to turn in the air as others have stated earlier and fell onto a bush. After taking her to the vet, her limp turned out to be a pulled muscle in her back. so follow up if your pocketbook allows.

hes probly fine he might jus be sleeping off the pain lol , my papa ran over my kitten by accident and he couldnt walk on his back legs right for three months but hes fine now and he can jump on the highest roof i know. but he probly ran away cuz he was embarrassed ?? lol cats are smarter than we think, or because he was hurting. if he can walk and everything hes probly ok , but keep an eye on him for a few days and see if you notice anything wrong.
